Last night’s Celebrity Rehab finale was typically optimistic: the patients shared their final process group, graduated and stared out into the great wide open of sobriety. What was unique about the episode was the season’s post-graduation coda, in which Rachel Uchitel and Dr. Drew visited Ground Zero (her fiance James Andrew O’Grady worked at the World Trade Center and died in the September 11 terrorist attacks). Her meeting with a man who’d lost his wife and niece in the attacks, as seen in the video above, was particularly moving. When she and Drew visited Central Park (Andy had proposed to her at The Boathouse) for her to pay her final respects, it was handled in a restrained fashion atypical of reality TV: as she read a letter she’d written to Andy that was to be buried with him, but that she couldn’t let go of, the sound cut out and Drew explained that the moment was her private one. Near the site in the park that she had selected to read the letter was a stone that cooincidentally said “For Andy,” and was signed “Charles.” As a perceptive viewer pointed out in the comments section of the video page, an acronym of “Charles” is “Rachel’s.” It was an amazing finale to the season finale.
Keep in mind that we’ll get updates from the cast on their recovery next week when the Celebrity Rehab 4 reunion airs on Wednesday, January 26 at 10/9c.
